This volume investigates phrasal adjunct islands in English and offers experimental data showing that many judgment differences in the existing literature are unrelated to extraction because they can be observed in declaratives as well as interrogatives. It proposes a multifactorial acceptability model to capture these judgment differences across sentence forms without introducing universal conditions that are specific to licensing extraction.
