About the author
Anita Anand (1949-) was born in West Bengal, India. She attended school and college in Asansol and Calcutta (now Kolkata), run by Irish Catholic nuns. She worked in a rural development centre in India. She kept a diary as a child and continued writing, in one form or another.From 1973-1990 Anand studied, lived and worked in the USA and Italy. She worked as a policy analyst in Washington DC and later in Italy in a Third World News Agency. During this time she travelled to Central and Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.She is the author of many articles on development, women and gender. Her first non-fiction book was The Beauty Game (Penguin, 2002) on the growth of the beauty industry in India. In 2016 her book The Kabul Blogs: My Days in the Life of Afghanistan was published by Women Unlimited, India and in 2017, Cholo Kolkata, an illustrated book on Kolkata for young adults.She has co-edited several books and scripted and produced documentaries. She paints, cooks, reads and gardens.
