This book describes and analyses the emergence of modernity in architecture in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, East Timor, Philippines and Taiwan, as well as the ocean peoples of Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia. It identifies drivers and fields of modernisation in four large chapters, each of which pursues the developments from early origins to current project of international architecture.
