About the author
Phub Zam was born in Chapcha, Bhutan, and began her education at St. Joseph’s Convent in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India. This early schooling laid the foundation for her disciplined approach to business and leadership.Over the decades, she has played an active role in Bhutan’s economic landscape, contributing to various sectors through entrepreneurship and institutional leadership. Phub Zam’s business journey began in the 1980s, and in 1984, she received the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) Golden Chedeon Sengtoi Award for her contributions to Bhutan’s business community. Her engagement with international business networks began in 1989 when she represented Bhutanese women entrepreneurs at the South East Asian Women’s Entrepreneurship Seminar in Helsinki, Finland. In 1998, she spoke at a conference in Vienna, Austria, on the participation of women entrepreneurs in Bhutan’s economic development. She has served on the boards of several Bhutanese companies in sectors including cement, petroleum, tourism, mining, and banking. Additionally, as a long-time member of the Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA), she has contributed to strengthening Bhutan-India business relations. In 2011, she was appointed Honorary Consul for Sweden in Bhutan, a role she continues to hold. In recognition of her efforts in fostering Bhutan-Sweden relations, she was awarded the Royal Order of the Polar Star by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden on December 7, 2019.
